چکیده

• During investigations of the effects of excercise and sympathomimetic amines on right ventricular function in unanesthetized dogs with normal or hypertrophied right ventricles, a circulatory state characterized by a supernormal stroke volume and cardiac output and by a decreased systemic vascular resistance was demonstrated in dogs studied 10 to 14 days after the release of chronic pulmonary artery constriction. The purpose of this report is to record this phenomenon and to discuss its nature and possible significance.

Distinct right ventricle remodeling in response to pressure overload in the rat.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), the most serious chronic disorder of the pulmonary circulation, is characterized by pulmonary vasoconstriction and remodeling, resulting in increased afterload on the right ventricle (RV). In fact, RV function is the main determinant of prognosis in PAH. The most frequently used experimental models of PAH include monocrotaline- and chronic hypoxia-induced ...

Oxidant stress from uncoupled nitric oxide synthase impairs vasodilation in fetal lambs with persistent pulmonary hypertension.

Persistent pulmonary hypertension of newborn (PPHN) is associated with decreased NO release and impaired pulmonary vasodilation. We investigated the hypothesis that increased superoxide (O(2)(*-)) release by an uncoupled endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) contributes to impaired pulmonary vasodilation in PPHN. We investigated the response of isolated pulmonary arteries to the NOS agonist ...

Action of histamine and H1 and H2 blockers on the cardiopulmonary circulation.

Systemic and pulmonary hemodynamic responses to histamine were investigated inchronically instrumented unanesthetized nonpregnant ewes. Histamine was administered intravenously and into the pulmonary artery. The effects of the same doses of histamine were assessed following H1 and H2 receptor blockade. The effects ocular changes were also monitored. Results indicate that intravenous histamine p...

Study of the murmur produced by acute pulmonary artery constriction.

• Pulmonary artery constriction has been utilized as an experimental method of stressing the right ventricle" or producing changes in the systemic circulation." As a result, the basic circulatory features of pulmonary artery constriction have been documented. The murmur that is produced by this procedure has not received as much attention. It therefore seemed desirable to investigate this aspec...

CO modulates pulmonary vascular response to acute hypoxia: relation to endothelin.

Pulmonary intralobar arteries express heme oxygenase (HO)-1 and -2 and release carbon monoxide (CO) during incubation in Krebs buffer. Acute hypoxia elicits isometric tension development (0.77 +/- 0.06 mN/mm) in pulmonary vascular rings treated with 15 micromol/l chromium mesoporphyrin (CrMP), an inhibitor of HO-dependent CO synthesis, but has no effect in untreated vessels. Acute hypoxia also ...
